DRESS CODE AND UNIFORM

DRESS CODE – VISITORS AND PARENTS
The following key points from the Dress Code
apply to members of the community or their
agents who deliver or pick up children from
school, who attend meetings, functions or
events at the school or visit the school for any
other reason.

FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS
Women and girls should dress in a conservative
manner consistent with the traditions
accepted in Chabad Lubavitch communities.
Clothing, jewellery and makeup should not
draw particular attention to the wearer nor
emphasise physical features.
Women and girls should wear a dress or a
skirt and top
Clothes should not be clingy or tight fitting
Necklines should be modest
Sleeves must extend below the elbow so
that elbows are not exposed
Hemlines should cover the knees, even
when sitting
Skirts and dresses should not have splits
Sheer tights are an acceptable form of leg
covering.

FOR MEN AND BOYS
Men and boys should dress in a conservative
manner consistent with the traditions accepted
in Chabad Lubavitch communities.
Men are expected to wear long pants and
closed toe shoes
A Yarmulke should be worn at all times by
Jewish men

FOR MALE STUDENTS
Haircuts
While we understand that a boy’s hair grows in
between visits to the hairdresser, the length of
hair exhibited by a Cheder boy should not be
predicated on secular fashion or culture.
Boys are expected to have a clipper cut
(number 4 at the longest) and to have their
hair cut regularly. Styled haircuts and choops
(long fringes) are not acceptable for a Cheder
boy. Any boy who has not complied with this
direction can be asked to leave Cheder and to
return when he has had his hair cut.
Hats and Caps
Boys barmitzvah age and over are expected to
wear a hat and jacket while in transit to and from
school. The fact that a boy might be travelling to
Cheder on a scooter or a bike is no justification
for not wearing a jacket and bringing along his
hat (in a plastic bag or a backpack etc.).
Any (barmitzvah age or older) boy who arrives at
Cheder without a hat will be asked to leave and
return when he brings a hat with him.
Boys below barmitzvah age are permitted to
wear caps. The caps must be either the school
cap or, a black or dark blue cap without logo
badging.
During school hours, boys below barmitzvah
age are not permitted to wear caps inside;
their use is restricted to play time and outdoor
breaks only.
Yarmulkes
Our strong preference is that all boys wear the
Cheder yarmulke. However, it is permitted for
boys to wear a plain black or dark blue yarmulke
(again no patterns or badging).
